Say Bye-Bye To Citroen Grand C4 SpaceTourer

Traditional MPVs, which have been dwindling in popularity, face an uphill battle in the SUV-dominated industry. For instance, the Citroen Grand C4 SpaceTourer will be phased out this year without a replacement scheduled.

Citroen CEO Vincent Cobée hinted about the Grand C4 SpaceTourer's death in November 2021. The news has now been confirmed by the automaker, with the final model expected to roll off the assembly line in July 2022. The Grand C4 SpaceTourer is based on the second-generation Grand C4 Picasso, which was introduced in 2013, had a minor redesign in 2016, and was rebranded in 2018.

The EMP2-powered model is the extended seven-seater variation of the C4 Picasso/C4 SpaceTourer, which was phased out in 2020.  While Citroen isn't planning a new version of the C4 SpaceTourer, it does have a few options for customers who value efficiency and spaciousness.

The C5 Aircross SUV was recently facelifted, as was the premium C5 X, as well as the electric Berlingo and SpaceTourer. It's worth noting that LCV-based MPVs are the only remaining options with a three-row cabin, and their limited availability as EVs beginning this year has significantly cut the target market.

Citroen's decision to discontinue the classic MPV line in favor of LCV-based models is part of a growing trend in the car sector. Aside from the Renault Scenic and the Volkswagen Touran, there are no other models left on the market.
