The 829-Horsepower McLaren Solus Is A New Track-Only Special

To everyone's astonishment, McLaren has unveiled their new Solus supercar, which is based on open-wheel race vehicles. Only 25 will be produced, and they're already sold out everywhere. 

McLaren Solus is powered by a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine developed by Judd and capable of producing 829 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. The engine is an integral part of the chassis and can rev to 10,000 rpm.

The vehicle features a sequential seven-speed transmission. Getting to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds and topping out at over 200 mph are both goals for the Solus. The Solus's body generates more than 2,646 pounds of downforce despite weighing less than 2,205 pounds. Aerodynamic pods are installed around the wheels to facilitate this. In addition, the front splitter directs air into ground-effect tunnels beneath the vehicle's body. 

The Solus has a single seat, and the sliding canopy allows the driver to enter the vehicle. Each vehicle is custom-made for the client since McLaren molds the seat and its permanent location according to the buyer's body. The steering wheel contains the primary instrument controls and displays.

The roll hoop and halo protective structure are made of titanium that was 3D printed. McLaren Solus is now undergoing testing on the racetrack. The 25 purchasers will also receive a driver-development coaching program, an FIA-homologated racing outfit, a helmet, and a customized HANS device.
