Thanks To Japanese Tuners, Nissan Leaf Crossover Already Exists

Nissan Leaf has been on the market since 2010, with both iterations of the electric vehicle offering a five-door hatchback body style. Although the next generation is expected to become a crossover, ESB, a tuning firm based in Osaka, Japan, has already released an aggressive Leaf.

The extra ground clearance on the Nissan Leaf Crossover is the result of different springs that elevate the vehicle by 30 mm (1.2 inches) to a respectable 190 mm (7.5 inches), or more if you choose bulkier tires. CLS 17-inch steel wheels with General Grabber all-terrain tires were chosen by the tuner.

Although reducing the capacity and economy of electric vehicles, they should provide better off-road performance. ESB applied matte black plastic cladding to the wheel arches, front and back bumpers, and darkened the back number plate holder to give it an SUV-like aspect. There's also a bespoke front bumper insert with an incorporated skid plate, as well as side sill extenders that are only for aesthetics.

A roof rack for extra luggage or tools, as well as an LED light bar for when it becomes too dark, were added as final touches by the tuner. Those additions will detract from the range because they add unneeded drag. The first-generation Nissan Leaf retains its factory electric motor, thus there are no alterations beneath the hood.

Fortunately, the cosmetic changes are reasonably priced. The front bumper accessories costs ¥32,000 ($281), the side sill flaps are ¥26,000 ($229), the higher suspension costs ¥32,000 ($281), and the rims are ¥19,000 ($167) per piece or ¥76,000 ($668) for the entire set. Prices are before taxes, and all-terrain tires and a roof rack are required for a complete image.
