Subaru 22B — Brought To USA’s Fans By Rain Prisk

Back in 1998, Subaru Impreza STI 22B celebrated its 40th anniversary and its success in the World Rally Championship. The model was the toughest ever in the car maker's history and simply the thought of Subaru 22B takes you in a world of high speed and adrenalin.

On February 15, 2018, the carmaker will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in the USA and the year of the celebration will be filled with events and launches. In order to honor the brand, Rain Prisk has come up with its own vision of what a modern Subaru 22B should look like.

Subaru 22B

Although the render shows a two-door coupe, Subaru doesn't have a two-door Impreza in its range. So, is it ever wants to make it real, the easiest way would be to use an existing four-door STI as a base. The adjustable rear wing and additional air vents would not be complicated to be installed, while the car would be finished in a Blue Pearl color, with golden wheels, similar to the original model.

Subaru 22B

The 2.2-liter turbo engine, with four cylinders, is the one that has inspired the name of the car - 22B. Having a power of 276 hp, after being specially adjusted, the theoretical concept does leave space for some improvements, considering that the real WRX STI on the American marketplace comes with a 305 hp 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine. The special edition STI S207 from 2015 had a 2.0-liter engine delivering 323 hp.

Subaru 22B

The original 22B model was produced in 424 units, 400 of which reached Japan, 16 - the UK, 5 - Australia, and 3 were prototypes. Rumors say that the Japanese cars were sold in one day. We hope that the 50th anniversary in the USA will inspire Subaru to produce 500 units of the model, or maybe even more for the Mexican and Canadian fans.

Subaru 22B

If this happens, don't expect the car to be a cheap one. The press release from 1998 stated a price of 5 million yen in Japan for 22B, so the car in the USA might cost $62,000.

Subaru 22B

At the moment, these are all presumptions. Subaru hasn't announced its intention of reviving 22B, so take a long look at this render from Rain Prisk, because this might be the next best thing you get.
