Stronger Than The 1980s: Mercedes’ Retro G-Wagen Is Back
by AutoExpert | 17 April, 2025
Mercedes really did it. Remember that one-off retro G-Wagen they showed off in 2023? The one painted like a 1980s 280GE? Yeah, that thing was sick. Well, now they’re actually making one.
It’s called the G-Class Edition Stronger Than The 1980s. It’s basically a love letter to the OG G-Wagens, just with 2025 money and tech. They’re only making 460 of them. You can pick between two colors: Agave Green or Colorado Beige. Both look straight out of an old photo album. Peak retro.

The wheels are old-school five-spokes, and the trim is matte black on the bumpers, fenders, and mirrors—classic retro style. Even the Mercedes badge and hood ornament are straight from the ’80s. It’s all super nostalgic, and honestly, pretty cool.

Inside, the puddle light says, “G : STRONGER THAN TIME.” A bit dramatic, but we kinda love it. The seats come with gray plaid cloth inserts that give off a strong vintage vibe. Furthermore, there’s soft Nappa leather, Apple CarPlay, and a high-end Burmester sound system. Basically, it’s modern comfort wrapped in a retro outfit. There’s even a “1 of 460” badge on the center console to remind you it’s something special.

Now for the pain part. This Mercedes G-Class starts at £152,815 in the UK. No US price yet, but expect it to be way above the regular G550, which is already $148K. So yeah—definitely not cheap.
