Small Steps, Bright Future - Lexus 2024 TX's Latest Innovation: Mobile Cup Holders

Over the years, cup holders haven't seen much innovation, but every once in a while, automakers decide to get creative. Enter Lexus, which has introduced modular cup holders in its upcoming 2024 TX model.

While they may appear conventional at first glance, these aren't your average cup holders. They feature retractable grips to securely hold cups and glasses. But what really sets them apart is their mobility; they can be easily removed from the central console.

Removing the cup holders reveals a large storage compartment beneath the central console. Lexus, ever the gentleman, has thoughtfully considered using this newfound space to store women's purses and small bags conveniently close by.

But the innovative features don't end there. The TX also boasts a retractable smartphone charger. If you need more space, simply push the wireless charging tray out of the way to unlock additional storage.

In models equipped with second-row captain seats, a "semi-console" comes fitted with two removable cup holders. This console can be easily detached and used as a tray for drinks and snacks during outdoor activities or sporting events. Once you're done, simply slide the console back into place.

We asked Lexus officials about these unique features. They explained that the modular cup holders are designed to offer customers flexibility with additional space. Interestingly, although the TX is Lexus' first model developed specifically for North America, they revealed that this innovative idea originated in Japan.
