A Mexican artist has contributed to the transformation of a top-of-the-line BMW 2 Series Coupe into a work of art. The action was carried out to coincide with the models' production ramp-up at BMW's Mexico plant.

The first example of the second-generation BMW 2 Series Coupe exited the assembly line some time ago, kicking up production at the factory in Mexico. It should be emphasized that this model, which is planned to be sold all over the world, will be manufactured only in this country.

BMW has decided to carry on the tradition started in 1975 when the German automaker unveiled its first Art Car, a BMW 3.0 CSL. To commemorate the start of production of the BMW 2 Series Coupe in Mexico, BMW's designers collaborated with local plastic artist Bosco to convert the M240i Coupe into yet another Art Car. The plastic technique is a cross between the Mexican and German flags, symbolizing the link between the car's development and assembly.

While the visuals appear to be simple at first look, the Bavarian maker confesses that the transition was not straightforward, but quite challenging. It just took three weeks to color everything by hand. The clear varnish took two weeks to apply, and another two weeks to remove defects.

The team of artists used 6.1 liters of paint and 2.5 liters of clear varnish to create this work of art. Some colors require five coats of paint. The model picked was an M240i xDrive, which means it has a 3.0-liter inline-six engine under the hood. The top of the range currently has 374-hp.
