Sedans Are Still Alive And Well In China

At the 2021 Chengdu Auto Show in China, Geely presented the all-new fourth-generation Emgrand sedan, which is built on the B-Segment Modular Architecture (BMA). Even if you've never heard of the Emgrand, it has been the most famous Chinese brand sedan for nine years in a row, with more than 3.25 million purchases.

The current generation continues on this performance by offering a cost-effective sedan with a fresh design and high-tech inside. Emgrand was a separate brand from 2009 until 2014, when it was renamed under the Geely parent business.

The new Geely Emgrand sedan, which measures 4,638 mm long, 1,820 mm wide, and 1,460 mm high, is a big deviation from its predecessors in terms of appearance and equipment. It seems bigger and more luxurious than any of the previous versions.

Whereas the profile's three-box shape is traditional, the grille and headlights are impressive, and the high-mounted linked LED taillights and incorporated rear spoiler are trendy. The new Emgrand, according to Geely, features a 0.27 Cd drag coefficient and a low center of gravity.

Because of the arrangement and horizontal lines linking the cooling vents, the dash appears to have been inspired by the Honda Civic. The Emgrand has vivid color choices and is filled with technology to delight Chinese clients. For the infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is paired with a 10.25-inch touchscreen that supports AI voice assistant and is available with OTA upgrades. In the top trim levels, there's also a purifying air conditioning system, a 540° surround-view camera, and an ultra-high-definition driving recording.

A 1.5-liter aluminum four-cylinder motor with 113-hp (84 kW / 114 PS) and 147 Nm (108 lb-ft) of torque is housed beneath the hood. A 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox that simulates an 8-speed auto sends power to all four wheels. Geely Emgrand is built for the Chinese market in Changxing. We don't anticipate the vehicle to be shipped because the market for B-Segment sedans in Europe and the United States is practically non-existent.

Emgrand is priced between 87,000 yuan ($13,454) and 92,000 yuan ($14,227), making it a real budget-friendly option.
