Saoutchik’s Comeback: New 300 GTC Roadster Teased After 70-Year Hiatus

Saoutchik, a name you probably haven’t heard in a while, is making a pretty big comeback after almost seven decades of being off the radar. They’re teasing a brand-new, restyled Mercedes roadster. This one has a soft-top, sleek body, and a bold rear, and from the looks of it, it could be based on the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, maybe even the AMG SL63 if we’re guessing right from the teaser shots.

If you’re not familiar with Saoutchik, they were huge back in the day for crafting beautiful, unique cars. One of their most famous was the 1928 Mercedes 680S Saoutchik Torpedo, which even snagged “Best in Show” at Pebble Beach in 2012. So, it seems like their new car, called the 300 GTC, will be taking some design cues from that iconic ride.

Saoutchik

Saoutchik started way back in 1906, in a suburb near Paris, thanks to Jacques Saoutchik. They became well-known for their attention to detail and were one of the first to make four-door convertibles. But, like many coachbuilders after WWII, things slowed down, and they eventually went bankrupt in 1955.

They're back, but they're not going it alone. It looks like they’ve teamed up with Ugur Sahin Design, which has done some pretty amazing stuff, and Pogea Racing, a German tuning company that’s no stranger to pushing the limits—even on Ferraris.

According to their social media posts, this 300 GTC is going to be a nod to their past with a modern twist. And with Pogea Racing involved, you can probably expect some serious performance. Regarding the appearance, the teaser showcases a Mercedes three-point star and classic multi-spoke wheels, reminiscent of the 300 SL.

No official word yet on when we’ll see the 300 GTC for real or how much it’s going to cost. But let’s be real—Saoutchik used to make cars for royalty and movie stars, so chances are this one’s going to come with a price tag that most of us can only dream about.
