SAIC-GM-Wuling Unveils Sunshine EV, a Budget-Friendly Minivan with Modular Design

SAIC-GM-Wuling has introduced the Sunshine EV, a compact and affordable electric minivan built for practicality. It joins the Sunshine lineup, which has sold over 5.3 million units since 2002. Despite its small size, it’s larger than Japanese kei vans, measuring 3,685 mm long, 1,530 mm wide, and 1,750 mm tall, with a 2,600 mm wheelbase.

The interior offers 527 liters of cargo space in its standard five-seat layout, expandable to 1,117 liters with the rear seats folded flat.

While the cabin is basic, it features 20 expandable areas and mounting holes, making it simple to customize with accessories like folding tables, cup holders, storage racks, and compartments. Wuling even suggests it could double as a mobile shop, camper, or work vehicle.

Power comes from a 40-hp electric motor, delivering a top speed of 100 km/h. A 17.6-kWh battery, compatible with both front and rear plugs, powers the vehicle. Later, CATL may also offer a larger 26.5-kWh battery compatible with its swapping network.

Early 2025 will see the debut of the Wuling Sunshine EV in China, with exports expected to follow. Pricing hasn’t been confirmed, but reports suggest it could start at around ¥50,000 ($6,900).
