Riding in a plane or flying in a car?

Dreams and attempts to combine the benefits of a car and an airplane are probably even older than the first plane the Wright brothers built, despite the disappointing results of many of these hybrids, More and more dreamers are emerging to try their luck at it.

The most famous hybrid automobile and aircraft was the Epouvante one out of Jules Verne's novel Lord of the World, first published in 1904. Among the lesser-known but more proven in practice include the Rotabuggy from 1943. That machine was nothing more than a classic Willys MB converted to a gyroplane.

The designers looking to combine the benefits of the automobile and aircraft in one machine during the twentieth century (as well as at present) usually follow one of two main paths. The first trying to adapt a classic car to fly, while others want to learn how to ride a plane on the ground.

There are a number of more or less successful hybrids cars and airplanes, trying to combine the advantages of both, but mostly these machines cannot boast very good driving and even flying qualities and their pilots can forget the acrobatic games that they can perform in a number of classic sports aircraft.
