Renault Brings Back The Beast: 5 Turbo 3E Hits Production In 2026

Renault’s 5 Turbo 3E concept is heading to production in 2026, bringing a fresh, all-electric take on the iconic Turbo. It’s designed to deliver incredible performance and tech, making it a dream car for driving enthusiasts.

Built on a completely bespoke platform, the 5 Turbo 3E uses advanced in-wheel motor technology to push out more than 500 bhp. That’s over three times the power of the original 1984 model, making it the most powerful production car Renault has ever created.

Bruno Vanel, Renault’s product boss, says the car will deliver a driving experience that’s not just exciting but downright surprising, thanks to the innovative drivetrain. Developed with British firm Protean Electric, this in-wheel motor technology allows each wheel to operate independently, eliminating the need for traditional systems like an electronic differential. The result? Incredible precision and control. With a 0–62-mph sprint under 3.5 seconds, this thing will absolutely fly.

The design stays true to the concept unveiled in 2022, featuring a carbon-composite body, flared wheel arches, and a huge rear spoiler. While the overall look nods to the Renault 5, the 5 Turbo 3E gets its own unique proportions and architecture. The concept retains the windshield angle, and a longer dash-to-axle ratio and custom chassis accentuate its bold stance.

Renault is keen to keep the fun factor intact, too. The concept had drift modes, a manual handbrake, and the ability to do donuts—expect at least some of these playful features to make it to the final version. Sandeep Bhambra, Renault’s head of advanced design, said the directive from CEO Luca de Meo was simple: “Make me a little beast.” Production will be limited, and with all the 5 Turbo 3E is expected to cost upwards of £100,000.
