Renault 5 EV Shares Preliminary Specifications

Renault announced in 2021 that it would reintroduce the Renault 5 as an all-electric supermini. The automaker has now revealed some preliminary technical details ahead of the production model's launch in 2024. The vehicle will utilize the CMF-B EV platform and share up to 70% of its parts with the Clio hatch and Captur subcompact crossover, both of which are based on the same platform.

Renault expects to reduce production costs by 30% compared to the Zoe by utilizing existing hardware. The upcoming model will differ from the Zoe in terms of battery modules, with just four large modules arranged in a single layer compared to the Zoe's 12 smaller modules.

In addition to the reduced number of battery modules, the upcoming Renault 5 EV will also have a higher energy density compared to the Zoe's pack. The battery will be integrated more efficiently into the platform around it, which will result in increased underbody rigidity. This improved rigidity will not only make the car safer but will also help reduce noise, vibration, and harshness.

At this time, Renault has not disclosed any information about the power output of the upcoming Renault 5 EV. However, the automaker has revealed that the vehicle will be equipped with an electric motor featuring technology derived from the Megane E-Tech Electric. Additionally, the R5 will have a new internal architecture.
