Queensland Police Equip Toyota Land Cruiser with Innovative "Rumbler" Siren

Australia's Queensland Police Service is upping the ante on its fleet with specially customized Toyota Land Cruiser Series 300s. These vehicles feature a groundbreaking "Rumbler" siren designed to make sure suspects can't ignore police presence. This innovative technology is expected to change the dynamic of law enforcement.

The "Rumbler" siren is an augmentation to the traditional strobe lights and shrill sound sirens. It emits low-frequency sound waves through a subwoofer installed behind the grille. The result? It's almost impossible for suspects not to notice the approaching police SUV, even when ambient noise is high, which could compel them to surrender more readily.

Inside, the Land Cruiser has undergone significant retrofitting to serve as an effective policing tool. The interior boasts an array of gadgets, communication systems, safety features, and storage solutions. Specialized lighting and command planning equipment are also on board. One notable addition is the Reveal Shield Pro—a handheld thermal camera with a 50-meter range, designed for night vision applications.

The Queensland Police Service has opted for the Land Cruiser Series 300 based on the entry-level GX trim. Its standout features include a bull bar, extra LEDs at the front, and a unique police livery in shades of orange, white, and blue on a silver body, setting it apart from civilian models. According to Assistant Commissioner Matthew Vanderbyl, the vehicle is designed by front-line officers themselves, making it tailor-made for policing requirements, including responding to emergency situations and conducting missing person searches.

This new addition will soon roll out on Queensland roads, with 15 vehicles initially ordered. It joins the likes of other SUV models that have been modified by the Queensland Police for similar duties, such as the Kia Sorento, the locally-produced Ford Territory, and the Toyota Kluger.
