Prodrive Celebrates The 25th Anniversary Of The Subaru Impreza WRC

Prodrive is marking the 25th anniversary of the Impreza World Rally Car's triumphant WRC debut by releasing a limited number of restored and modified Imprezas bearing the designation P25. The limited production of 25 new cars, according to the company, would draw influence from both the race car and the renowned 22B road car that Subaru of Japan created to commemorate its 1997 championship success.
Until the P25 is unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month, a single sketch and a few specs have been released by Prodrive. The image depicts a first-generation Impreza that is nearly identical to a 22B.
According to Prodrive, this P25 is more potent and performs better than an original Impreza thanks to current technologies. A 2.5-liter flat-four engine with 400 horsepower is paired with a six-speed semi-automatic paddle-shift gearbox. To further reduce the weight, Prodrive said the P25 will utilize substantial amounts of carbon fiber.
Dave Richards, the founder of Prodrive, is said to have been the person who came up with the idea. The P25 development team members included the McLaren F1 designer Peter Stevens (who conceived the appearance) and Prodrive technical director David Lapworth (responsible for the engineering part 25 years ago).
The first of the 25 automobiles will be delivered later this year, according to Prodrive. It's not clear how much the P25 will cost, but we'd expect it to be pricey.
