Australian customers can now order the 2022 Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid GT-Line. This updated version of the popular SUV is powered by a 1.6-liter Smartstream four-cylinder engine that produces 177 hp (132 kW) and torque of 195 lb-ft (265 Nm). An electric motor with 90 hp (67 kW) and 224 lb-ft (304 Nm) of torque is linked to this motor, giving a combined output of 261 hp (195 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque.

The gearbox is a six-speed automatic. The Sorento Plug-In Hybrid, on the other hand, comes with a 14 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack that lets it go up to 68 km (42 miles) on electricity alone. The SUV also has a Type 2 charging outlet, which can recharge from 15% to 95% in 3 h and 25 min.

Only the GT-Line version of the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid is available in Australia, and it comes with a Terrain Mode that lets drivers choose between Mud, Snow, and Sand modes. 19-inch wheels, special badging, and battery and charging displays in the digital instrument cluster are also included as standard features.

“With the Sorento already being an award-winning package, I couldn't think of a better moment to introduce the PHEV to the line-up,” Kia Australia chief operating officer Damien Meredith said in a release. “Like the Niro range, the Sorento PHEV is a step towards a greener future. With the Sorento HEV and the EV6 coming next year, Kia will set a new standard for electric vehicles.”

Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid GT-Line is priced in Australia at AU$81,990 (US$60,000) drive-away, which is AU$14,700 (US$10,800) more than the most costly diesel model.
