Porsche Could Keep Combustion Macan Despite Plans For All-Electric Future

Porsche may reconsider their decision to discontinue the gas-powered Macan. Despite their initial plan to cease production by 2026 and transition to a fully electric vehicle, a recent report from Autocar indicates they may be reconsidering their decision. According to a Porsche insider, they’re not completely confident that the new electric Macan can fully replace the gas version.

"The reception to the new Macan [Electric] has been positive, but we are yet to see its long-term performance, given uncertain market conditions," the insider said.

It makes sense that Porsche is a bit cautious. After all, Taycan sales took a big hit in 2024, dropping by almost 50%. The insider pointed out that the decline in Taycan sales shows that consumer preferences are shifting, and we can’t just go by old assumptions about the market.

Porsche hasn’t made an official comment yet, but they’ve already hinted that they might keep some gas models around. Back in November 2024, Porsche’s CFO Lutz Meschke said: "We are currently looking at the possibility of the originally planned all-electric vehicles having a hybrid drive or a combustion engine. We are currently in the middle of making conceptual decisions. What is clear is that we are sticking with the combustion engine for much longer."

So, according to Autocar, Porsche is seriously considering keeping the gas Macan around even after 2026. Looks like they’re carefully weighing their options to stay in tune with market changes while also pushing forward with their electric plans.
