The Polestar 5 four-door grand tourer was on display at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed as a development prototype. Ahead of its 2024 debut, the automaker has provided additional details on its EV powertrain. An astounding 872 horsepower and 664 pounds of torque are the main points of interest here.

According to official images and leaked patent drawings, the prototype is equipped with fake headlights and taillights that will be substituted by current LEDs.

In general, the car retains the sleek four-door form and most of its distinctive stylistic cues from the 2020 Polestar Precept concept. Dual electric motors with an anticipated combined output of 872 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque are expected to be included in the EV's 800 Volt architecture.

Swedish engineers are working on the engine, and we expect that it will eventually be employed in other Polestar automobiles. Polestar's CTO and Head of R&D, Jörg Brandscheid, stated, “The new powertrain we are working on will set a new brand benchmark in our high-performing cars. Combining strong electric motor engineering ability with advances in light-weight platform technology is leading to truly stunning driver’s cars.”

The Polestar 5's custom aluminum-bonded chassis contributes to its dynamics. The platform is identical to those employed by low-volume performance cars, but Polestar has made it available for mass manufacturing. The architecture will provide higher torsional rigidity while permitting a body-in-white mass similar to that of smaller vehicles.
