Peugeot is expanding its 3008 and 5008 SUV lineup in Europe, adding new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and long-range electric powertrain options to complement the existing mild-hybrid and standard EV models. The latest Peugeot 3008 made its debut a year ago, and the updated 5008 debuted six months later.

The PHEV setup combines an updated 1.6-liter turbocharged PureTech engine with a 123 hp electric motor, integrated into a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Together, this system generates 192 hp and 350 Nm of torque, driving the front wheels.

While this PHEV is less powerful than the previous all-wheel-drive variant, it offers a significantly improved electric-only range of up to 52 miles (84 km), thanks to a 21 kWh battery pack. Charging takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes, and drivers can switch between three driving modes: Hybrid, Electric, and Sport, to balance efficiency and performance. The same powertrain is available in the larger 5008, though its electric-only range is slightly lower at 51 miles (82 km).

What’s especially notable about these new PHEVs is that they don’t sacrifice any cargo space, offering the same boot capacity as their battery-electric (BEV) and mild-hybrid counterparts, thanks to Peugeot’s clever packaging using the STLA Medium architecture. Peugeot plans to introduce "Long-Range 230 Electric" versions of the E-3008 and E-5008, in addition to the PHEV models.

These versions come with a larger 96.9 kWh battery pack, boosting their range significantly. The E-3008 can travel up to 435 miles (700 km) on a single charge, while the heavier E-5008 achieves 415 miles (668 km). Both models feature a single electric motor producing 227 hp and support 160 kW DC rapid charging.

Peugeot claims the E-3008 can make the trip from Paris to Nice with just two charging stops, outperforming competitors that would require at least three stops for the same journey. The PHEV models are already available for order in most European countries, while the long-range EV variants will be available after their debut at the Paris Motor Show.
