Peugeot 208 Rallye: A Swiss Dealer's Tribute to Rallying Heritage

In a delightful nod to Peugeot's rallying legacy, a Swiss dealer, Garages-Hotz, has crafted an unofficial special edition of the Peugeot 208, dubbed the 208 Rallye. This unique model echoes the spirit of the legendary 205 Turbo 16 Group B rally car and harks back to the glory days of Peugeot's rallying success.

It's a creative tribute to mark the 40th anniversary of the iconic Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, yet it stays true to the stock mechanical specifications.

Visual Homage to a Rally Legend

At first glance, the 208 Rallye could be mistaken for a sporty factory trim. It's based on the pre-facelifted second-gen Peugeot 208, which uniquely sports five doors, differing from its Rallye predecessors. The visual allure is undeniable, with the car sporting 16-inch white steel rims and body-colored fender extensions that complement its overall aesthetic.

The exterior is further enhanced with 208 Rallye lettering on the C-pillar, a Peugeot Talbot Sport windshield sticker, and vibrant Rallye decals that elevate its stature.

Interior and Exterior Design Cues

Inside, the 208 Rallye maintains a contemporary feel, featuring faux carbon fiber accents on the dashboard and door cards, red Peugeot branding on the steering wheel, and light gray fabric upholstery with red stitching.

The exterior design honors the original with halogen lighting units, a design choice that feels more fitting to the model's legacy than the LED lights on the newer versions.

Under the Hood: Balancing Tradition and Modernity

Under the hood, the 208 Rallye houses a stock 1.2-liter PureTech turbocharged engine, delivering 99 hp and 205 Nm of torque. This output mirrors that of the original 205 Rallye, offering a blend of nostalgia and contemporary performance. The car's weight, however, tips the scales at 1,165 kg, making it notably heavier than its ancestor.

No Mechanical or Chassis Upgrades

Despite its racing-inspired aesthetics, the 208 Rallye doesn't boast any performance or chassis enhancements. It retains the comfort, safety, and technology of a modern supermini, although some might argue that a firmer suspension could have added an extra edge to its appeal.

Availability and Pricing

Currently available in Switzerland for 24,500 CHF (approximately $28,057 or €25,556), the 208 Rallye can be purchased through the dealer's website. While it's possible to replicate this look on a base-model 208, there's an undeniable charm to this dealer special that might justify the extra expense.

A Future for the Rallye Nameplate?

This isn't the first Rallye-badged 208 special edition to surface; a similar version of the first-gen model appeared in Le Mans in 2012. Enthusiasts and hopefuls are left wondering if Peugeot will take inspiration from these tributes and officially revive the Rallye nameplate in the future.
