Only 5 Abarth 1000 SP Cars Based On Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Will Be Produced

We saw the Abarth 1000 SP concept car from FCA Heritage in May. While many assumed this was a one-off prototype brought out for show, Abarth plans to produce five of the roadster based on the now-discontinued Alfa Romeo 4C.

Roberto Giolito, Head of FCA Heritage and previous Head of Centro Stile Fiat and Abarth, confirmed the news to Auto Italia Magazine. The whole interview will be published in the upcoming edition, according to a tweet from the magazine, perhaps exposing further facts about the limited-production Abarth 1000 SP.

The new Abarth 1000 SP is obviously much larger than its inspiration, but it has a lot of the same exterior design cues as the original, such as similar vents on the bonnet, tiny round headlights on bulged fenders, an open two-seater cabin with a shielded tubular frame, and a small rear overhang.

Abarth's roadster prototype is based on the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider's carbon fiber monocoque, with an aluminum front sub-frame, overlapping triangle suspension in the front, and MacPherson strut suspension in the back, as you can see from the dimensions. The mid-mounted turbocharged 1,742 cc four-cylinder engine generates 237 hp (177 kW / 240 PS) and sends power to the rear wheels, the same as the Alfa Romeo.

According to the press release, Abarth 1000 SP will participate in important vintage automobile events in the fall of 2021, exactly 55 years after its forerunner's introduction.
