No HD Radio On Upcoming Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra

General Motors, along with other carmakers, is facing some issues because of the chip shortage. A few weeks ago, GM had to remove the fuel-saving engine start/stop feature from Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra. Now, the popular HD Radio will no longer be available on several 2021 and 2022 GM trucks.

If you’re the radio kind of guy, this will not be an issue for you. But poor drivers like to connect to another source and listen to their own music. Moreover, seems that the modification will be permanent; at least this is what the official email sent out to the dealerships is saying.

The affected models will be a series out of the 2021 Silverado and Sierra 1500, all 2022 Silverado 2500/3500 HD, and 2022 Sierra 2500/3500 HD. As for the 2021 Silverado 1500, all trim levels will be lacking the HD Radio, including the top-notch High Country.

The clients will get the heads-up through an updated Monroney label with a new RPO code, RG0, implying that no HD Radio is installed. This will apply to all cars produced from July 12, 2021, and so on. Ok, if it counts, there will be a USD 50 discount because of the excluded feature.

Ford is also suffering, having announced the need to redesign some features because of the chip issue.
