Nissan Z9 Pickup Boasts A Striking Design, Hybrid Muscle, And 1,100 Km Range

Nissan’s latest pickup, the Z9, is a fresh entry into the market, born from its partnership with China’s Dongfeng. This truck sits on a new platform and has some impressive stats to back it up.

It stretches 5,520 mm (217 inches) long, 1,960 mm (77.1 inches) wide, and 1,950 mm (76.7 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 3,300 mm (130 inches). It’s a dual-cab design that looks modern and capable without trying too strongly to be flashy or controversial—unlike some rivals, like Kia’s edgy Tasman.

Up front, the Nissan Dongfeng Z9 sports a sleek light bar and striking Z-shaped LED daytime running lights. Its split grille and the mix of silver and black accents on the bumper give it a rugged yet refined vibe.

Step inside, and you’ll find a clean, straightforward cabin. A two-spoke steering wheel with silver trim, a compact digital instrument cluster, and a large infotainment touchscreen take center stage. Thankfully, Nissan kept some physical toggles below the air vents for easy access to key controls, so you’re not stuck fiddling with menus while driving.

Under the hood, the Z9 offers solid engine options. There’s a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 258 hp and a 2.3-liter turbodiesel with 190 hp, both mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. For those seeking a more advanced version, a hybrid version is currently in development.

The Nissan Dongfeng Z9 is expected to pack a punch with 435 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, along with a remarkable range of 1,100 km (683 miles) under NEDC standards. This hybrid is aimed squarely at competing with models like the BYD Shark. Production of the Z9 has already started in China, but it’s unclear if it will be sold outside the country.
