Nissan Unveils The Leaf Nismo, But There's One Big Surprise
by AutoExpert | 23 July, 2026
Nismo models are normally about extra performance, but the Leaf takes a different route. Rather than increasing power, Nissan concentrated on improving the driving experience.
Visually, the changes are hard to miss. The Leaf Nismo receives a redesigned front splitter featuring Nissan's twin-blade design, Arteria Magma red accents, matching mirror caps, red trim along the body cladding, and lightweight 19-inch Enkei alloy wheels. It has a much sportier presence than the regular Leaf.

The biggest surprise is what Nissan left out. Instead of the 3D holographic taillights available on the Platinum+ and Autech models, the flagship version makes do with the basic rear lights. A ducktail spoiler and a revised rear bumper with a red accent help make up for the decision, but it's still an unexpected choice for the range-topper.
The interior follows the same performance theme with Nismo badges, red stitching, unique graphics for the digital displays, suede-like trim, synthetic leather upholstery, and optional power-adjustable Recaro bucket seats.

Under the skin, however, the powertrain is unchanged. The B5 Nismo combines a 53 kWh battery with a 174-hp electric motor, while the B7 pairs a 75 kWh battery with a 214-hp motor. Both remain front-wheel drive, leaving Nissan's dual-motor e-4ORCE system exclusive to the Ariya Nismo. Nissan left the powertrain alone and instead worked on the driving dynamics, adding a dedicated Nismo mode, stronger regenerative braking, and an upgraded chassis.

Those upgrades include new springs, revised anti-roll bars, swing-valve dampers, reinforced subframe bushings, recalibrated steering, and Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires. The goal isn't quicker acceleration but sharper handling and improved driver confidence.

The Leaf Nismo is now available in Japan, priced from ¥6,601,100 ($40,500) for the B5 and ¥7,227,000 ($44,400) for the B7 with optional Recaro seats. Nissan hasn't confirmed whether the Leaf Nismo will be offered elsewhere, but the company's push to expand the Nismo brand leaves the door open.
