Nico Rosberg (holder of pole position for the third consecutive time in this season) managed not to record problems with the tires from the previous two races and kept the leader position throughout the entire race. He managed to successfully passing of the first pit entrance, of that two inputs of the Safety Car on the track and of the stopping almost about 20 minutes of the race after an incident between Max Chilton and Pastor Maldonado.

His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, seemed to be able to retain the second place obtained in the terms of the qualifications on Saturday, but the first entry of the Safety Car from the 30th tour forced the pilots of the Mercedes AMG to enter the pits at the same time. For this reason, the British lost valuable time and was overtaken by Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, who had progressed in that way on second and third places with no stand out overtaking maneuvers.

Sergio Perez (the McLaren team pilot starting with this year) was one of the protagonists of the race after being impressed by successive overruns during the race against teammate Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso's. However, in trying to get the fifth place, the Mexican crashed with Kimi Raikkonen and was forced to abandon, while the Lotus team pilot entered the pits, returned on the 16th place and finished on the 10th after a quick series of overruns due to significantly faster tires.

Adrian Sutil (Force India) profited most from the Perez-Raikkonen incident and finished on the fifth place at the end of the race, in which surpassed Button and Alonso by similar hairpin maneuvers.

Monaco offered numerous incidents that require neutralization of the race. Felipe Massa, who suffered an identical accident in 30th tour to that, happened on Saturday training, made the start. After abandoning by hitting metal rails, generated first appearance of the Safety Car.

The race was resumed in the 39th tour, but it was interrupted for nearly 20 minutes in the 46th tour after a hooking between Max Chilton and Pastor Maldonado. The pilot Williams bumped powerful into the parapets from Tabac turn, which fell the most of the width of the track circuit. The pilots took the opportunity to change the tires, Raikkonen being the only one of top 10 who chose the tires soft, but in the 62nd tour the safety car has returned to the circuit after Romain Grosjean hit from behind Daniel Ricciardo, both being forced to abandon.

The best time in the race was set by Vettel, which was clocked to 1:16.577 in the 77th tour.
