New VW ID. Unyx 08 Revealed With Up To 496 HP And 800-Volt Architecture

Half a year after the ID.EVO concept made its debut in Shanghai, Volkswagen has unveiled the production model, which will go to market as the ID. Unyx 08.
The new electric SUV is the latest product from Volkswagen Anhui, the joint venture with JAC Motors, and it’s also one of the first vehicles shaped by VW’s technical partnership with Xpeng. More co-developed EVs are already on the way, including a sedan coming soon.

The road-ready Unyx 08 still carries the same design spirit as the concept. It keeps the smooth, minimalist body surfaces, frameless doors, darkened A-pillars, and wide rear shoulders. Even the glowing wolf emblem tucked under the rear spoiler survived the transition to production.

Some details have changed—the lights at both ends have more conventional shapes, the hood and tailgate now feature visible panel lines, and the bumpers and diffuser have been slightly toned down. Flush door handles and exposed driver-assistance sensors give the car a more realistic, production-ready look.

Volkswagen hasn’t shown the interior yet, but it confirmed that the Unyx 08 will get an AI-powered assistant and advanced L2++ driver-assistance features. Based on what’s typical in the Chinese EV market right now, it’s safe to expect a large central display paired with a compact digital instrument screen.
The Unyx 08 will launch as a pure battery-electric model with no range-extender option. Built on an 800-volt platform, it will be offered in both single- and dual-motor setups and is targeting more than 700 km (435 miles) of CLTC range.

Information filed with China’s MIIT lists the rear motor at 308 hp and the front motor at 188 hp. When paired together, the all-wheel-drive version delivers around 496 hp—more than enough for brisk performance. The battery pack is a CATL-supplied LFP unit, but Volkswagen has not yet revealed its exact size.

More details are expected to follow soon, but this already appears to be one of Volkswagen’s most significant new EVs for the Chinese market.
