New Fiat SUV Set For 2027 With Hybrid, EV Options

Fiat is preparing to take on the Dacia Bigster with a new SUV arriving in 2027, and it might quietly carry forward the spirit of the old Multipla MPV.
This new model is one of two C-segment vehicles Fiat plans to introduce in the coming years. The other is expected to be a coupe-style hatchback with SUV cues. Both cars were hinted at through last year’s Panda-inspired SUV and Fastback concepts. They will be built on Stellantis’s Smart Car platform, which is also used for the new Grande Panda. As a result, buyers can expect a mix of electric and hybrid powertrains.

While it will follow the Panda family’s design language rather than the retro look of the 500 series, Fiat hasn’t confirmed if the new SUV will use the Panda name. Still, company leaders are drawing connections to the past, especially the unusual but clever Multipla.
Gaetano Thorel, head of Fiat Europe, admitted the brand has a limited presence in the compact SUV segment. However, he pointed to the original Multipla as proof that Fiat can deliver practical, family-focused vehicles. The 1998 Fiat Multipla, despite its odd appearance, was praised for its smart use of space, offering six seats across two rows in a compact frame.

The upcoming Fiat SUV is expected to have a more conventional exterior but may include interior features inspired by the Multipla’s flexibility.
Moreover, design chief François Leboine said Fiat’s new models will draw from the Grande Panda’s styling while avoiding heavy nostalgia. According to him, the design will have a touch of retro inspiration but will be focused on connecting with younger drivers who might not be familiar with Fiat’s older cars.
