BMW is rolling out a new version of the 5-Series just for Canada: meet the BMW 540i xDrive Legacy Edition. Only 151 units will be made, making it a rare and collectible piece of BMW history.

This is the first non-hybrid, six-cylinder variant of the latest 5-Series to hit Canadian roads. Under the hood, it packs BMW’s 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with mild-hybrid assist, pushing out 375 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque.

Paired with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, it’ll sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds. Until now, if you wanted a six-cylinder 5-Series in Canada, your only option was the 550e plug-in hybrid.

This special BMW 5-Series edition wears Maldives Black II Metallic, a nostalgic color that nods to the classic E34 5-Series—the very first to carry the 540i badge and offer a V8 with a manual gearbox. It's a subtle but meaningful tribute for longtime BMW fans.

Buyers will have a handful of color choices beyond Maldives Black II. The Legacy Edition is also available in Oxford Green Metallic, Black Blue (non-metallic), Cinnabar Red, Grigio Telesto Pearl Effect, Frozen Black, and Sepang Bronze Metallic.

No matter the shade, every special BMW 5-Series comes standard with 21-inch BMW Individual wheels and the M Sport Pro Package. You can also pick your preferred brake caliper color, either red or blue M Sport units.

Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but expect it to start above CA$100,000 (around $72,600 USD). Order books are open now, and first deliveries are expected later this year.
