New All-Electric Bentley Continental GT Is Planned To Arrive

There is speculation that 650-hp Continental GT Speed will be the most powerful and most driver-focused version of Bentley's third-generation luxury coupé. However, instead of developing a W12-powered Continental Supersport successor for 2017 or a GT3-R successor for 2014, all-electric Bentley Continental GT line is now the focus. In such way, Bentley wants to widen the GT model range and reduce the total carbon emissions from Bentley's new cars.

The business has outlined a path for the complete electrification of its production line by 2030. It has already released plug-in hybrid versions of its Bentayga and Flying Spur models.

For all-electric Bentley Continental GT, Crewe may use the same V6 hybrid system as its siblings, or a more robust V8 hybrid system analogous to Porsche's Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, or even a more advanced and flexible blend of electric engines and piston power to match Mercedes-recently AMG's unveiled GT 73. 

Smaller engines and lower power levels could provide Bentley the best chance of achieving a European emissions rating of under 50g/km. Many buyers prefer the GT's 12-cylinder motor to the smaller V8, and there are even some at Crewe who remembers how terribly the BMW-powered Arnages of the late 1990s were treated by consumers, who quickly swapped them out for 6.75-litre Bentley Red Labels.

Other sources have suggested that no substitute for the Continental Supersport or GT3-R is in Bentley's product strategy for this gen. We can infer when Bentley switches to a full-electric model line-up for its current-generation GT, heavy petrol-engined GTs may be a difficult game.
