The new seven-seat Volkswagen Tayron will be launched for sale in the UK in 2025 as the retired Allspace Tiguan’s successor.

The second Tayron generation was recently unveiled in the latest batch of Chinese regulatory filings ahead of its planned debut on European markets next year. It will go by Tiguan L Pro in China and be available in R-Line standard and sporty packages.

As announced by CEO Thomas Schäfer, Tayron is a global model that's planned to be produced at the manufacturing plants in China (Anting and Changchun), Mexico (Puebla), and Germany (Wolfsburg).

Similar to the new third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan and the second-generation Passat, Tayron is based on the fresh Volkswagen MQB-Evo platform, with extra suspension upgrades, 48V mild-hybrid compatibility, and stiffening measures.

The details in the Chinese government filing indicate the length, width, and height at 4735mm, 1859mm, and 1682mm, respectively. Tayron is also given a wheelbase that is larger by 111 mm than a third-generation Tiguan, at 2791 mm. It weighs 1790 kg.

The models available on the Chinese market will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 184 HP at the entry-level and 217 HP at the superior specifications. The European models will rock on a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid choice identical to those planned to be made accessible in the Tiguan.

In the UK, Tyron will be positioned right below the recently launched Volkswagen Touareg. It will probably be sold in the United Kingdom with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine, both paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and 48V electrification.

Volkswagen confirmed that it will provide the choice of two PHEVs offering 201HP and 270 HP, with an electric-only range of more than 62 miles and DC fast-charging capability. Depending on the engine, the buyers will have to choose between front and all-wheel drive.
