Mother of Pearl Motivated The Second $28 Million Rolls-Royce Boat Tail

Before its official premiere at the 2022 Concorso d'Eleganza, Villa d'Este, on May 21, Rolls-Royce unveiled the second exemplar of the Boat Tail coachbuilt vehicle. This Boat Tail was designed for a particular client. The "mother of pearl" topic was adopted to honor his illustrious father's ties with the pearling industry.

With a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 and aluminum body panels similar to the previous Boat Tail but with a completely new specification, the second Boat Tail is a whole separate vehicle.

The process began with the designers being inspired by a choice of four pearl shells from the client's personal collection. Consequently, the exterior color is one of the most custom finishes ever made by the automaker.

Boat Tail's bonnet and the frame of the Pantheon Grille are both finished in a cognac color, which matches the interior of the vehicle. This cognac-colored paint contains bronze and gold-colored aluminum mica flakes and is coated with a layer of crystal and iced matt coat.

The original butterfly design and carbon-fiber stools are carried over to the back. This owner, however, chose a richer Royal Walnut veneer with gold-plated pinstripes with a satin-brushed finish instead of the Caleidolegno veneer used in the first Boat Tail. Over time, the veneer will mature and approach the cognac hue of the bonnet.

The leather inside the cabin is a mix of cognac and oyster, with some more Royal Walnut veneer and rose gold highlights. The mother of pearl has been used on the switchgear, inside the instrument cluster, and on the dash timepiece.

Rolls Royce has not released the price of the second Boat Tail, although all three are expected to cost approximately $28 million.
