More Strength And Torque For Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen Military Variant

If you drive a Mercedes G-Class, you're probably aware of the SUV's boxy and monstrous origins as a military transport vehicle. Several countries still employ a military-spec Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen for members of the armed forces, even though it is now available as a premium civilian SUV.

Mercedes-Benz is going to change that with the announcement of a new military-spec G-Wagen for Europeans.
When it comes to rescue and special operations, the W464 series is only available to government organizations and militaries, according to the Australian publication Which Car. The publication did clarify, however, that the W461 will continue to be produced.

Improved off-road capability and a more powerful 3.0-liter turbo-diesel straight-six engine have been announced for the non-civilian G-Class W464 G350d. The new W464 is said to produce 245-hp (183 kW) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque, which is a 35% increase in output and a 50% increase in torque.

An eight-speed automatic gearbox delivers these figures to the wheels. It boasts a 24V electrical system, better fuel economy, and a larger cargo, as well as newer technologies like LED headlights and daytime running lights. According to announcements made at the recently completed IAA in Munich, the more refined G-Class W463 will gain a new Professional Line external trim as well. The Professional Line adds features and accessories for off-roading in addition to cosmetic upgrades.

The Mercedes EQG Concept, a near-production EV version of the G-Wagen, was also unveiled in Munich. There are no powertrain specs yet, and Mercedes hasn't revealed a release date for the EQG, but it's thought that a few tweaks will be made in the production version.
