Mobile Wallet Cars For Vehicle-Based Payments Available From Blackberry

BlackBerry will collaborate with a company in the United States to transform automobiles into so-called mobile wallets. The software expert, former cellphone behemoth has established a partnership with Car IQ in California to get into linked car payments.

According to reports, the system would combine Car IQ's financial software with BlackBerry's in-vehicle "edge" computing, which analyzes data locally rather than sending it off to be processed elsewhere. Access to different vehicle sensors will also be provided via the system.

The technology would provide a distinct ‘digital fingerprint' for the car, enabling it to safely link to a bank's payment network and pay for commonly used services such as gasoline, tolls, parking, insurance, service, and other ‘wallet' features.
