Mini Is Planning A Drastic Makeover For Its Lineup

Mini is nearing completion on the designs for its next generation of vehicles, which will comprise smaller and larger models powered by a combination of petrol and electricity.

Mini's new hatchback lineup will be divided into two distinct models: a petrol model built-in Oxford using updated versions of the existing car's architecture, and an electric model that will be noticeably smaller and built solely in China using a dedicated EV platform in partnership with Great Wall Motors. Both are scheduled to be released in 2023.

In addition to a new electric crossover, this Chinese joint venture will produce the next-generation Countryman in Germany, which will be available in both petrol and electric power. Other rumored Minis include a compact electric MPV called the Traveller, which has yet to be officially announced. Mini Urbanaut concept may see production in the coming years.

Nevertheless, the replacement of all current Mini models is by no means a foregone conclusion.  As market demands have changed, the lineup has grown and diminished under BMW's ownership, with varying implementations and even body types, such as the Clubman.

Mini
After the far more sophisticated execution of its existing models, Mini's next generation could likewise be subtly pushed upmarket, but with a cleaner, simplified approach. As leather and chrome are being phased out in favor of trim that serves a functional purpose rather than being just ornamental, more fabrics with a variety of textures and knits are expected to be employed.

Mini
With fashion designer Paul Smith as a collaborator, the pared-back Strip concept demonstrated this minimalist approach to design. Because of this, the car was stripped of all of its extraneous ornamentation and even its external paint.
