Mini Enhances Cooper S With John Cooper Works Trim

Mini has introduced a new John Cooper Works trim for the gasoline-powered Cooper S. While it adds a sportier look and some interior upgrades, it doesn’t actually boost performance over the base model.

The JCW trim features a new rear diffuser and a more angular front splitter, which fit right in with the sporty body package. The black aero parts, roof, and mirror caps look sharp alongside the glossy black grille that sports the John Cooper Works logo.

This trim also includes black brake calipers with the JCW insignia and unique alloy wheels available in 17 or 18 inches. Inside, you’ll find new sport seats with a mix of synthetic leather and colorful knit fabric, accented with red stitching. The dashboard gets a fresh look with a black and red checkered flag pattern. Other features, like the customizable Mini Experience Modes and the circular OLED infotainment display, carry over from the Cooper S.

Under the hood, the JCW trim has the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the base Cooper S, producing 201 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. It can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 6.6 seconds, thanks to the seven-speed automatic gearbox powering the front wheels.

Mini hasn't announced the price for the Cooper S JCW Trim yet, but this version will hit the market before the full-fledged JCW model arrives in the autumn. The upcoming JCW model will feature a more powerful 2.0-liter engine and a refined chassis for a noticeable performance boost, whereas the JCW Trim focuses on adding sporty looks to the Cooper S.

In addition, Mini has announced a JCW variant for the electrified Cooper SE, so stay tuned!
