MG's Latest Electric CUV: What To Expect From The Rebranded Baojun Cloud

MG is getting ready to launch a new electric vehicle in India, and they’ve been teasing us with hints about it being an intelligent CUV. It seems this new model will be a rebranded version of the Baojun Cloud, which has been available in China since 2023.

Despite the mysterious hints, this zero-emission car—looking like a cross between a minivan and a small hatchback—is actually Japanese in origin. From what we can tell, MG has only changed the front bumper and the tailgate badge, so it should look almost identical to the Baojun Cloud (or the Wuling Cloud EV in Indonesia).

MG

All three versions of this vehicle measure 4,295 mm (169.1 inches) in length and have a wheelbase of 2,700 mm (106.3 inches). This makes them 129 mm (5.1 inches) longer than the Chevrolet Bolt, and just 10 mm (0.4 inches) shorter than the Bolt EUV. The minivan-like shape hides a roomy interior with five seats and a large trunk. Inside, you’ll find advanced driver assistance systems, a panoramic sunroof, comfy diamond-patterned seats, and a 15.6-inch touchscreen for infotainment.

MG

We don't know how much of this technology will go into the Indian MG. In China, the Baojun Cloud comes with either a 37.9 kWh or a 50.6 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 360 km (224 miles) or 460 km (286 miles), respectively. Both versions have a single electric motor that produces 134 horsepower (100 kW/136 PS) and drives the front wheels.

MG

A joint venture between SAIC, GM, and Wuling produces the Baojun Cloud. Thanks to SAIC’s ownership of MG, the British brand has been able to enter the Chinese EV market. According to Autocar India, the electric SUV could start at a price below Rs 20 lakh ($23,884) in India, making it a direct competitor to the Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Nexon EV.

MG

MG first entered the Indian market in 2019 with the Hector SUV, a rebadged Baojun 530/Wuling Almaz. The entry-level MG Comet EV, which launched in 2023, is also a rebadged Wuling Air. So, it looks like MG is continuing the trend with this new electric CUV.
