MG Cyberster Red Top Edition: A Tribute to 100 Years of Legacy

MG brought out the limited electric sportscar special edition by Cyberster, known as the Red Top Edition, which pretty much resembles the color scheme of the Mazda MX-5 Miata 100th-anniversary edition.

Popular lore suggests that Mazda copied the MGB for the original MX-5 Miata; therefore, seeing the resemblance between the two roadster brands is no news. Cyberster’s special edition design is actually inspired by the MGB, MGA, and MG Magnette color schemes.

The MG Cyberster Red Top Edition is coincidentally part of the MG's 100th-anniversary party and comes with a red convertible roof and pearl white exterior paint. The red top accompanies the red braking calipers sitting beyond the turbine-like wheels.

MG produces only 100 units of this special edition, available in three variants between the prices of 45.100 USD and 50.000 USD. The improvements seem to affect only the aesthetic, meaning the powertrain options could still be the same.

The base rear-wheel-drive trim with a single-motor system can produce 310 hp when coupled with a 64 kWh battery. The bigger 77 kWh battery increases the power to 335 hp and allows a 0-60 mph sprint in only 4,9 seconds. It also offers a CLTC-evaluated range of 360 miles.

There is also an all-wheel-drive version with two motors and a 77 kWh battery that generates 536 hp and 535 lb-ft of torque. Here, 0–60 mph takes 3.2 seconds, but the range drops to 323 miles due to the added weight and power burning.

If MG Cyberster will ever make it to the USA, expect lower figures, as the CLTC standards are way more generous than the EPA’s.

Sadly, the Chinese automaker SAIC Motors won’t make it to the American market because China has commercial issues with the USA.
