Mercedes-Benz Trucks is stepping into the future of logistics with its recently unveiled eActros 600, an electric long-haul truck designed to redefine road freight.

Scheduled for production by the end of next year, the eActros 600 features a minimalist yet aerodynamically optimized design. Enhancements include underbody paneling, A-pillar air deflectors, and matrix LED headlights, along with a cab that's been extended by 80 mm to improve airflow.

With a substantial payload capacity of approximately 22 tons, the truck runs on three lithium iron phosphate batteries. These batteries boast a combined energy storage of 621 kWh, providing a range of up to 311 miles. Mercedes-Benz mentions that most of their customers' long-haul trips are shorter than this, making range anxiety a non-issue as long as charging infrastructure is available at pick-up and drop-off points.

For operations requiring greater distances, Mercedes assures that the eActros 600 can cover well over 621 miles in a day, especially when drivers utilize charging periods during their mandated breaks.

In contrast, Tesla has yet to officially release detailed battery specifications for its own electric semi, but industry estimates suggest it may have a capacity ranging between 850-950 kWh, for a maximum range of roughly 500 miles.

The eActros 600 is engineered for durability, anticipated to last up to 1.2 million miles within a decade of use. Additionally, its battery life is expected to maintain over 80% health even after this period.

The electric motors in this truck are part of an 800-volt system that churns out a constant 536 hp and can peak at 805 hp, delivering near-uninterrupted torque.

Mercedes' eActros 600 not only competes with Tesla's yet-to-be-released electric Semi but also seeks to establish a new standard in electric long-haul trucking.
