Mercedes-Benz recently lifted the veil on its next-gen E-Class All-Terrain. Making a triumphant return for its sophomore generation, it is confirmed to be the lone "estate" model in Mercedes' American portfolio.

As the automotive world continues to be dominated by crossover SUVs, the E-Class All-Terrain serves as a welcome respite for those wanting something divergent. Furnished with a default all-wheel-drive system, additional ground clearance of 46 mm, and sophisticated Airmatic air suspension, the car is well-positioned to take on competitors like Audi's A6 All-Road and Volvo's V90 Cross Country.

Engine Options Across Continents

European car enthusiasts can choose from three variants, which include a mild-hybrid four-cylinder diesel (E 220), a six-cylinder gasoline engine (E 450), and a diesel plug-in hybrid (E 300 de).

On the other side of the Atlantic, the U.S. market will exclusively offer the E 450. This six-cylinder variant comes with an impressive 375 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in an estimated 4.6 seconds. Its top speed is capped at 130 mph.

Unique Design Traits

The All-Terrain draws its fundamental architecture from the European estate model. It differentiates itself through a distinct front grille, specialized bumpers, glossy chrome guards in front and back, and gray wheel-arch cladding.

Off-Road Features and Amenities

The All-Terrain comes standard with Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel-drive system and an off-road driving program. A "transparent hood" feature, similar to the ones found in Land Rovers, employs 360-degree cameras to offer a view of the terrain beneath the vehicle via the infotainment screen.

Room to Spare

The vehicle’s pragmatic offerings can't be ignored. It provides ample storage space, ranging from 615 to 1,830 liters. The rear seats can be adjusted in a 40:20:40 configuration.

On the Tech Front

An optional front-passenger screen is available, as is a dashboard-mounted video/selfie camera. Entertainment apps, from TikTok to Angry Birds, are integrated into the infotainment system, ensuring that passengers are always entertained.

Price and Release Details

The E-Class All-Terrain is expected to be priced between $70,000 and $80,000. European customers will see the car in showrooms in early 2024, with U.S. availability confirmed for the same year, though the exact date remains unspecified.
