Mercedes-Benz GL becomes GLS after a face lift! We could even see a coupe.

The Stuttgart automobile manufacturer continues to amaze us with new changes of names in the range of Mercedes-Benz models.

So after the old ML became GLE, GLK was renamed in GLC, and now it's the GL turn to adopt the name of GLS. Moreover, the Germans plan to launch two new models, derivatives of GLS.

Especially, it is about the wheelbase increased on the GLS versions and a possible GLS Coupe! CarAdvice was informed about this by the deputy chairman of the Division of SUVs and Wolf-Dieter Kurz sports cars. And in case you were curious what role has the letter S, added to GL, then you should know that the latter speaks acknowledges its range of luxury cars, S-Class category. Simple and intuitive right?

Also, the official made it clear that any GLS Coupe is more likely to come off the assembly line than a Coupe GLA and that is because GLA Coupe would create inconvenience for rear-seat passengers due to the curved rear ceiling feature in a coupe.

And if some time ago the Germans denied the rumors about the production of GL Maybach version, behold, now with the restyling of the series, this idea is discussed more and more within the company. So the Range Rover LWB might end up with a competitor to match, with the release of the GLS long-wheelbase version.

More details about future plans of the Germans we will know soon, and some voices from the backstage say that this will happen even at the Auto Show in Frankfurt, where the new GLS debuts. Until then, we only hope that rumors will come true.
