Meet The SAIC Z7, The EV That Might Fool Porsche Fans
by AutoExpert | 5 March, 2026
Chinese automaker SAIC has unveiled a new electric model that may look surprisingly familiar. The Z7 sedan and its Shooting Brake version borrow heavily from the design of the Porsche Taycan, enough that some people might need a second glance to tell them apart.
The car was developed under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance, or HIMA, a project led by Huawei that brings together several Chinese companies.

SAIC teased the Z7 earlier this year, and now the full design has finally been revealed. Pricing is expected to land between 250,000 and 350,000 yuan, roughly $36,000 to $50,000. That still places it far below the Taycan, which starts at around 918,000 yuan or $133,000 in China.

From the front, the Z7 does have its own look, with slim LED headlights and a dark lower grille. But from the side, the similarities become much clearer. The roofline, door shapes, mirrors, and even the door handles look strikingly close to those of the Taycan.

The rear continues the resemblance. Like Porsche’s EV, the Z7 features a full-width LED light bar across the back, and the shape of the tailgate feels very familiar. The Shooting Brake version pushes the comparison even further, closely matching the profile of the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo.
One version of the car has also been shown in bright pink with black wheels and matching accents. Interestingly, that finish looks very similar to the anniversary edition of the Xiaomi SU7 unveiled in early 2025.

Inside, only a few images have been released so far. They show a slim digital instrument display, a large central touchscreen, and a separate screen for the front passenger. The cabin also includes two wireless charging pads and a flat-bottom steering wheel.

Technical details remain limited for now. Chinese reports suggest the Z7 could be offered with 80 kWh and 100 kWh battery packs, along with both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. More official information is expected soon.
