Meet The Maxus eTerron 9: 435 HP And A 267-Mile Range For The UK’s First Electric 4WD Pickup

So, Maxus has rolled out something a bit different—a four-wheel-drive electric pickup, called the eTerron 9, and it's the first of its kind in the UK. This one follows the T90EV, which was also an electric pickup, but that one only had rear-wheel drive.

This new Maxus eTerron 9 is bigger than the Ford Ranger (which everyone seems to compare things to these days), and it's clearly all about practicality. I mean, the rear bed is 2.4 meters long.

You could probably fit a couple of sofas back there! And if that’s not enough, you can drop the rear bulkhead to fit even longer stuff, plus there’s a nifty 236-liter storage spot under the bonnet—perfect for, I don’t know, gym bags or groceries or whatever else you might have lying around. Now, here’s the catch—the payload is 620 kg. It’s under the 1-tonne limit, which means no lower tax rates that have made pickups like the Ranger or Hilux so popular in the UK. Bit of a bummer, honestly.

But on the plus side, it can tow 3,500 kg, which is solid. The battery? It’s got a 102 kWh lithium-iron phosphate setup, which should get you up to 267 miles of range. Charging isn't a slog either, with the ability to charge from 20% to 80% in 40 minutes—just enough time for a quick lunch. Plus, it can power external devices, so if you’re ever at a campsite or, I don’t know, need to charge some gear on a job site, this thing’s got you covered.

Under the hood you’ve got two motors—one for each axle—pushing out 435 bhp. Oh, and it comes with air suspension that adjusts itself based on your speed, which is excellent for cruising on the motorway and saving some battery life. Need to load up some heavy stuff? No problem; the rear end can lower itself by 60 mm to make things easier.

Orders for the Maxus eTerron 9  will open in October, and deliveries will commence in January 2025. They haven’t mentioned a price yet, but it’ll likely cost more than the T90EV, which is currently priced from £49,950. So yeah, not exactly a bargain bin option, but with those features, it could be worth it.
