Mazda6 Is Rumored To Be Getting An Inline-Six Engine In 2022

Mazda's new products plans, including Mazda6, have been elusive for several years. The sedan has been rumored to be moving to a rear-wheel-drive platform since at least 2017, but no such car has appeared. A report published by Spyder7 claims, however, that the long-rumored model would finally arrive in the first half of 2022.

According to sources, Mazda6 would get new inline-six motors next year, which matched with other rumors about the car. Later in 2020, Mazda previewed the new engine along with other options. There will be an entirely new design for the new Mazda6 when it finally shows up.

With a disproportionately tall hood and streamlined greenhouse shape, Mazda's Vision Coupe Concept from 2017 will serve as design inspiration, according to Spyder7. An H-shaped diffuser and a redesigned grille design are said to be included in the upcoming model.

The Mazda6, on the other hand, will most likely be a five-seater. The 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine will be combined with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system in Mazda's powertrain portfolio. According to Spyder7, Mazda will offer all-electric and plug-in hybrid versions of the Mazda6 in the future.

Since Mazda confirmed earlier this year that sedans and CX-3s will no longer be sold in the US, it's unknown if Mazda will make the new rear-wheel-drive Mazda6 available to Americans. Nevertheless, with the new Mazda6, the car may come back into fashion.
