Mazda will provide Toyota with SKYACTIV engines!

According to the journalists from Automotive News, Toyota and Mazda will have a new collaboration starting with 2015. The two Japanese manufacturers will share the SKYACTIV powertrains and even a model of a small class platform that will be the replacement of Mazda2 and Toyota Yaris's.
The collaboration refers mainly to the Mexico factory of the Mazda, recently inaugurated, which will produce 50,000 units for Toyota's from the total capacity of 230,000 units. Production of the new model will debut on April 1 2015 - March 31 2016. The engine SKYACTIV from Mazda will be a small displacement unit fueled by gasoline through a direct injection system.
The Mazda expects significant economies of scale with this partnership as it will achieve significant volumes to those from Toyota, which will help to amortize the development costs of SKYACTIV powertrain. The representatives of the two brands confirmed their collaboration in Mexico, but declined to provide further details on the effects of this global partnership.
