Mazda returns with a supercar diesel at Indianapolis after 60 years.

Mazda has created a dedicated racing model that uses diesel SKYACTIV technology, which would mean something natural in Europe, while in America this model is a curiosity.

Mazda has sent the new Supercar to compete in the various circuits in the United States, becoming the first diesel car that raced at Daytona, and even managed to get a victory on the circuit at Road Atlanta American Championship Grand Am.

What comes next is the race that will be held at the legendary Indianapolis circuit, interesting fact is that  Mazda SKYACTIV-D didn't become the first diesel-powered race car that competed on Indianapolis circuit. More than 60 years Cummins Diesel Special car was driven by a Cummins of 6.6-liter diesel engine which competed in the 500 miles race at Indianapolis in 1952.

The diesel racing car had set a record in qualifying, the power being delivered by the six-cylinder diesel engine which is impressive. However in the race, the car had to abandon after 71 laps due to the turbine failure.

Mazda took the opportunity and published a picture with both diesel cars, saying that the racing version of the Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D is close to that of series version, because 51% of the diesel engine items are series cues.
