Maserati Teases Its First EV: The GranTurismo Folgore

The GranTurismo Folgore, Maserati's first-ever electric vehicle, has been teased in a series of pictures. The photographs show the new 2+2 coupe's front, side, and back in full EV guise, however, conventional gasoline and hybrid variants, as well as a Spyder and GranCabrio variation, will be available.

The general form of the automobile is that of a typical front-engined GT car, with a long low bonnet. Inside, a set of shifter paddles appears to be mounted to the steering column, as seen via the side window. They might be used to regulate the regenerative braking effect's power, or the automobile displayed could be a gasoline vehicle disguised as an EV for advertising purposes.

Maserati had said that their 2022 EV will have 650+ horsepower (659 PS) and a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) speed of 2.5 seconds, making it the most ferocious Maserati ever. Those statistics might refer to the MC20 Folgore rather than the GranTurismo Folgore, although Maserati has stated that the GT will be the first to hit dealerships.

A variant of the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces 621 horsepower (630 PS / 463 kW) and 538 lb-ft (730 Nm) of torque in the MC20, as well as a V8, are expected to come in the range.

As part of the Stellantis "Dare Forward 2030" initiative launched earlier this month, Maserati has already declared that it would solely produce completely electric cars by 2030.  So, after 2030, there will be no more gas-powered Maserati cars.

Maserati will provide a 100% electric version of every vehicle in its lineup in 2025, starting with the forthcoming Grecale SUV and the larger Levante SUV, MC20 supercar, Quattroporte luxury sedan, and the new GranTurismo Folgore. According to the carmaker, establishing its electrified portfolio by 2025 will make it the first premium brand to do so.
