Mary Barra - the first woman who will lead a major American car company!

General Motors Corporation has announced that the position of the CEO, the highest position in the company, will be taken from 15 January to Mary Barra. Aged 51, Barra will become the first woman in history which runs a car company.

Mary Barra, GM will take the lead in the hands of Dan Akerson, 65, who led the company in the recent years. The future CEO of the General Motors Corporation began the work in the US in the early 80s as an engineer at Pontiac, one of the brands in the portfolio of US manufacturer.

She was only 18 and she says in an interview with Bloomberg this spring, worked "in a tough environment that teachesyou to be stronger". Mary Barra's career took a different turn after GM included her in a program to develop the potential leaders of the future GM, receiving a scholarship to Stanford University.

Subsequently, Barra was his assistant John "Jack" Francis Smith, the CEO of General Motors on the border of millennia, followed a path full of functions becoming more demanding: the vice president of the Office of Engineering Production of GM to the position of Director of Product Development operations globally, passing the leadership of the company.
