Mahindra’s latest, the Roxx, is adding a touch of practicality to the rugged Thar. This new four-door variant might just be the game-changer for those craving Jeep Wrangler vibes with a bit more room. Wow! According to reports, the Thar Roxx rides on a new, more refined ladder frame, yet it promises a more comfortable ride.

The non-electric power sources are indeed diesel and gasoline engines.

Compared to the regular Thar, the Mahindra Thar Roxx has a few extra doors, different side windows, and a longer body, but it also has some better looks. The revamped grille, featuring six vertical slots arranged in two layers, is the distinguishing element. Contemporary LED graphics now adorn the headlights and taillights, while the bumpers have undergone discreet alterations. There is no detachable hardtop, but the two-tone paint job makes it look like there is.

A set of massive 255/60 tires adorn the off-roader's 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels. The Thar Roxx dimensions are 4,428 mm (174.3 in) long, 1,870 mm (73.6 in) wide, and 1,923 mm (75.7 in) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm (112.2 in). This results in a length increase of 443 mm (17.4 inches) over the regular Thar, with an additional 400 mm (15.7 inches) offered between the axles. When compared to the Jeep Wrangler JL, the Indian variant is 357 mm (14.1 inches) shorter.

The four-door supposedly has better materials, less noise, vibration, and harshness, and more functionality. From the mid-range model levels up, you'll find a digital instrument cluster and a brand new 10.25-inch infotainment display as standard equipment. The top-tier model includes front seats with ventilation, a cooled glovebox, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and a Harman Kardon audio system with nine speakers.

The Mahindra Thar Roxx achieves Level 2 autonomy with six airbags as standard equipment and over ten optional advanced driver assistance systems. Rest assured, it will be just as refined as the Mahindra XUV700 unibody SUV thanks to its ride on the brand new M Glyde ladder-frame design. A live axle with Watts linkage and Frequency Dependent Damping technology makes up the back of the suspension, while independent double wishbones with coil springs make up the front.

Two non-electrical powertrain alternatives are available for the Mahindra Thar Roxx, and both outperform the regular Thar in terms of power and torque. While the 2.2-liter mHawk turbodiesel can produce up to 172 horsepower (128.6 kW / 175 PS) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque, the 2.0-liter mStallion TGDi four-cylinder gasoline engine can produce up to 174 horsepower (130 kW / 177 PS) on its own. It comes with a six-speed manual transmission or an Aisin automatic six-speed transmission, so you can choose between sending power to the back wheels or all four wheels.

With the 4Xplor System—which features electronic locking differentials and several terrain modes—equipped, the Thar Roxx's off-road capabilities are just as formidable as its looks. The Crawl Smart Assist is a first for Indian-built vehicles, and it's available on the Thar Roxx. Furthermore, it boasts an outstanding 41.7° approach angle and a wading depth of 650 mm (25.6 inches).

Prices for the Mahindra Thar Roxx range from 12.99 lakh (about $15,500 USD) for the base gasoline RWD manual to 20.49 lakh (approximately $24,400 USD) for the top-of-the-line 4WD diesel automatic in India. A higher starting price of Rs 1.64 lakh ($1,950) compared to the two-door Mahindra Thar is indicative of the new model. According to Autocar India, bookings for the Tuthill GT One will open on October 2, with the first deliveries scheduled for October 12.
