Lotus Set to Start Delivering the All-Electric Evija Hypercar

After a long four-year wait, Lotus has finally announced that the initial deliveries of the all-electric Evija hypercar will commence during the upcoming Monterey Car Week in California next month. This announcement signifies a significant milestone for the much-anticipated hypercar, which saw its launch plans disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lotus, which has been tight-lipped about the Evija since the bulk of its development updates in 2020 and 2021, is now ready to deliver this hypercar to its eagerly awaiting clientele. At the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed, Gavan Kershaw, the company’s Director of Attributes and Product Integrity, confirmed to CarBuzz that the Evija is finally ready to hit the streets. Although it remains unclear when production began, Lotus has been spotted flaunting one of the limited-edition Evija Emerson Fittipaldi Edition models, which is rumored to be headed to a Chinese customer.

Interestingly, Kershaw revealed that not all of the 130 planned units have found buyers yet, meaning there's still a golden opportunity for interested buyers to get their hands on this rare piece of engineering marvel. This stands in stark contrast to Evija’s two main competitors, the Rimac Nevera and Pininfarina Battista, both of which have sold out.

Underneath its sleek exterior, the Evija houses four electric motors that together churn out a massive 1,973 hp and 1,254 lb-ft (1,700 Nm) of torque. Drawing power from a 70 kWh battery pack, the British carmaker asserts that the Evija can achieve 186 mph (300 km/h) in under 9 seconds and can top 200 mph (320 km/h) when pushed to its limit.

Despite the initial optimism to start deliveries in 2021, the plan was delayed further after Lotus decided to end its engineering contract with Williams Advanced Engineering, the firm responsible for the development of the hypercar's high-voltage systems and battery.
