In the realm of endurance racing, a new challenger is about to emerge, as Lamborghini reveals their latest competition-ready marvel, the SC63. Making its grand debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the SC63 is designed with the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship in mind, ready to take on iconic races such as the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Powering this racing beast is a custom-designed twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine, built specifically for the rigors of the race track. This innovative engine design uses a 'cold V' setup that positions the turbochargers outside the vee angle of the engine, optimizing cooling and servicing while also reducing weight and centering the car's gravity.

Adding to the SC63's powertrain is a hybrid system, together producing an output capped at 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) by regulations. Lamborghini also adhered to LMDh rules specifying a standard gearbox, battery, and motor generator unit, all designed to maintain a handle on development costs.

While certain elements of the SC63 were pre-determined, Lamborghini had the freedom to personalize features such as the push rod front suspension design, overall weight distribution, and ease of service for critical parts, thanks to an early partnership with Ligier. This influence extends to the car's design, with Lamborghini’s Centro Stile ensuring the SC63 proudly sports the brand's identity, highlighted by its vibrant livery and signature Y-shaped lighting units.

Head of Design Mitja Borkert provides further insights into the car's unique touches. “We have integrated a NACA duct into the side panel, inspired by the air intake of the Countach. Furthermore, the rear wheel arch design conveys a sense of forward acceleration, an homage to Lamborghini's design language visible in the Revuelto.”

The SC63 is set to begin testing soon, with the aim to maximize performance and tire preservation across diverse track surfaces. As for who will pilot this innovative machine, Lamborghini has partnered with Iron Lynx to operate the SC63. Confirmed drivers include Lamborghini factory drivers Mirko Bortolotti and Andrea Caldarelli, as well as Formula 1 veterans Daniil Kvyat and Romain Grosjean.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann hailed the SC63 as the most advanced racing car ever produced by Lamborghini. He stated, “This hybrid prototype's entry into some of the world's biggest endurance races aligns with our vision for the future of high-performance mobility. This car is a real-life demonstration of our roadmap ‘Direzione Cor Tauri’ for the electrification of our product range, as demonstrated for road legal cars with the launch of the Revuelto.”
